# Install the Extension

> Download and install the Qualcomm® VS Code Extension directly on your Dragonwing device.

## Prerequisites

    Install VS Code on the device before proceeding.

    Ensure WiFi has been configured and is active on the device.

    The device needs internet access, or alternatively an SSH connection to a host machine that has internet access.

<Warning>
  If your device does not have internet access, certain features will be restricted. For example, AI Model performance measurements via AI Hub will not be available.

<Note>
  If your device does not meet these prerequisites, we recommend using the **Hosted IDE** setup instead — where the IDE runs on your laptop or development machine and remotely connects to the device. See the [Setup on Your Host Machine](../setup/install-vscode) section to get started.

## Get the Extension on the Device

The extension is available on the [Qualcomm® Software Center (QSC)](https://softwarecenter.qualcomm.com/catalog/item/qualcomm_ide_developer_edition) — **no account or login required**.

  Look for **Qualcomm IDE Developer Edition** on the catalog page. The download is a `.vsix` file or a `.zip` file that contains the vsix file.

    On the device, open a browser and go to the [Qualcomm® Software Center](https://softwarecenter.qualcomm.com/catalog/item/qualcomm_ide_developer_edition). Download the `.vsix` file directly to the device.

  <Tab title="Transfer from a host machine">
    <Note>
      Use this approach if the device does not have internet access, for example in restricted network or VPN environments.
    </Note>

    On your host machine, go to the [Qualcomm® Software Center](https://softwarecenter.qualcomm.com/catalog/item/qualcomm_ide_developer_edition) and download the `.vsix` file. Then transfer it to the device using one of the following methods:

    **Via SSH (device and host on the same local network)**

    ```bash theme={null}
    scp qualcomm-ide-*.vsix <user>@<device-ip>:~/
    ```

    Replace `<user>` and `<device-ip>` with your device credentials.

    **Via USB stick (no network required)**

    Copy the `.vsix` file to a USB stick, plug it into the device, then copy it to the home directory:

    ```bash theme={null}
    cp /media/<user>/<usb-label>/qualcomm-ide-*.vsix ~/
    ```

## Install in VS Code

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the Extensions side-bar">
    Click the Extensions icon in the Activity Bar (or press `Ctrl+Shift+X`).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Install from VSIX">
    Click the `…` overflow menu at the top of the Extensions panel and choose **Install from VSIX…**

    Browse to the `.vsix` file you downloaded.

  <Step title="Activate the extension">
    After installation, a **Qualcomm Visual Studio Code Extension** icon appears in the Activity Bar. Click it.

    Select **Home** in the side-bar, then click **Go to Dashboard** to navigate to the Devices page.

## Verify Installation

  The **Home** page loads with **Get Started** and **Go to Dashboard** buttons — you are ready to use the extension on your device.
